-
Do you have a minimum project requirement? No we don’t. Typically we would like to work on transforming full spaces for you to truly understand the value of our service, however we would be happy to work with you to transform just one room at a time.
-
Why do I need an Interior Designer if I already have an architect? It depends on the scope of your project. An Architect designs the structure of the home mainly focused on the shape of the building, structural requirements, exterior materials, interior layout and requirements for utilities like power, plumbing and water. An Interior designer takes the architects structural plan and determines all of the aesthetic and functional details ensuring a consistent cohesive use of colour and materials throughout the space as well as curating furniture and fittings that complement the architectural build.
-
Do I need a designer if I only want help with new furniture? An Interior Designer offers knowledge of space planning, use of colour and materials to ensure your furniture will fit perfectly into your home. They ensure all selections work together and allow access to trade only suppliers where you will be presented with pieces that are not available in retail stores.
-
How can an interior designer save me money? An Interior Designer can save you money in multiple ways. First of all, one of the biggest savings will be time saved, not with just the design itself but with the management of multiple suppliers and subcontractors and all logistics related to the procurement process. Our team spend their lives researching products and suppliers and can develop design concepts to present to you quickly and to brief. Our access to trade only suppliers allows us to pass on discounts all year round, that are only available through hiring an Interior Designer.
-
Will I still get the final say?Our customised design management plan ensures there are touchpoints throughout the design process where you have opportunities to provide feedback. Each stage is signed off by you, all final design decisions lie with you. Every step of the way, you are involved and aware of the budget and we will make you aware, from the offset if we think your intended spend matches your project scope.
-
How involved in the process will I need to be?Our process can be completely tailored to you. We can manage the entire process from concept to completion, checkin in with you with budget updates and sending across final designs for approval or we can have more face to face meetings and work through the concept and design development stages in a more collaborative way.
-
Will I see the value of working with a professional interior designer?Yes. Well organised and thoughtful design creates a relaxing, functional and endlessly pleasing environment. A well-designed space feels effortless and “right” to the inhabitants. And, from a functional perspective, working with an interior designer exposes you to new products and new solutions.
-
Where do you get your furniture? We source furniture from a huge range of trade only suppliers and furniture retailers across Australia. We specify furniture and decor to suit your budget and timeline and deliver the look that best meets your brief.
-
Do we get to meet face to face before I decide if I want to proceed? The process begins with a discovery call followed by a face to face design consultation at your home, which lasts for up to two hours. This gives us a chance to get to know each other and to understand more about your unique project, budget and any deadlines. We will walk through the space with you to get an understanding of how you and your family live in your home and ensure we have any measurements and photographs. It is very helpful at this time to discuss what you like or dislike about certain spaces. We like to review all your inspiration images and make sure we have fully understood your style and intended outcomes for the project. Once we have understood all of this we will go away and prepare a proposal of how we can best work together and at this point you decide if you want to move forwards.

What’s the difference between Interior Design and Interior Decoration? This is a question we get all the time. The simplest way to answer this is that Interior Design delves into the science of understanding how a person lives within a space, ensuring that each space is functional and well thought out as well as beautiful. Interior Decoration is the furnishing of a space. This may include furniture, wall and window treatments, soft accessories and decor. We are qualified Interior Designers with a huge amount of experience in decoration, ensuring we can complete both interior design and interior decoration projects from concept to completion.
-
Do you specialise in any particular style of interior design? The short answer is no. At Milu Designs We pride ourselves in being able to make beautiful, functional, unique spaces in any design style. We will always ensure there is a cohesive design created through repetition of colours, shapes and materials but we take the time to understand your vision and style and love to create new and innovative spaces.
-
Can you integrate my favourite pieces of furniture or accessories into the design?Absolutely!! We encourage this. There is no need to start completely from scratch. We will work with you to understand those pieces you love and want to keep and we will ensure we curate a design that encompasses these. The flow can be created through the use of colour and textures.
-
I don’t know what style I want – can you still help?We can definitely still help. If you have seen some images you like on pinterest or instagram etc get saving them and we can review these in our concept briefing meeting. We will work through these to understand what you love about each image and pull together a cohesive design brief for your unique project that gets signed off by you before the main design work commences.
-
Will we drive around to different stores to pick out furniture in person?Typically we do not go store-to-store to shop for individual pieces. Shopping for furniture in person greatly reduces the number of pieces available to you, it takes much longer to travel between stores, and many times the piece you want may not actually be on the showroom floor. To recreate the shopping experience at home, we try to gather as many photos, specifications, and product samples as possible to help you make an informed decision. All of this information is presented in our design sheets. If you are not comfortable ordering the bulk of your furniture this way and absolutely must see and touch the furniture before buying it, let us know at the initial consultation and we will be sure to budget more time in our estimates to allow for in-person shopping.
-
What if I don’t like a piece of furniture I bought through you, can I return it?When purchasing furniture for your home, 90% of the time you are ordering your furniture from our design sheets which will include a few photos of the product and as many details about the product (size, weight, etc.) that we can provide. When we order the furniture, every order is a custom order for your specific piece from a furniture manufacturer. Because of the custom nature of the furniture orders, all sales are final and we are unable to accept returns. We completely understand that this can be a frustrating situation and will try to work with you to find a reasonable solution. Sometimes this may mean that we have another customer that is willing to buy the piece from you, sometimes the manufacturer will take it back for a restocking fee, other times this means that we are unable to do anything and can’t take it back. We have had a great track-record so far; however, we like to be up-front with you about our policy.
