Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about working with Milu Designs. If you have a question that isn't answered here, feel free to get in touch. I'd love to hear from you.
I offer full-service interior design for busy professionals across Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast. This includes kitchen and bathroom design, space planning, lighting planning, interior and exterior finishes selections, full furnishing and interior decoration. I manage your project from concept to final styling; including all suppliers, trades and delivery logistics, so you don't have to.
I currently service all areas of Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast. I'm also happy to receive enquiries from the Gold Coast, however a travel fee will be included in the proposal.
I don't have a minimum requirement. That said, I love working on full spaces where I can truly transform a home and deliver the best possible result. I'm also happy to work room by room if that suits you better; just get in touch and we can talk through what works for your situation.
They're complementary services rather than overlapping ones. Your architect focuses on the structure of your home; the shape, layout, structural requirements and utilities. I come in after that and take care of all the aesthetic and functional details, ensuring a cohesive use of colour and materials throughout, and curating the furniture and fittings that bring the whole space to life.
Absolutely! Even for furnishing alone, an interior designer brings real value. I have an eye for space planning, proportion and how pieces work together, and I have access to trade-only suppliers with pieces that simply aren't available in retail stores. The result is a home that feels considered and cohesive rather than pieced together.
Yes, in several ways. The most significant saving is time. Managing suppliers, trades, procurement and logistics is a full-time job, and I take all of that off your plate entirely. I also have access to trade-only pricing and supplier discounts that are only available through working with a designer; savings that are passed directly on to you.
Always. Every stage of the process is signed off by you before we move forward. I keep you informed of budget at every step, and if I ever feel your intended spend doesn't match your project scope I'll tell you upfront, no surprises. The design is always yours.
As much or as little as you'd like. I can manage the entire process from concept to completion, checking in with budget updates and sending designs through for your approval. Or if you'd prefer a more hands-on, collaborative approach with more face-to-face time, I can tailor the process to suit you. It's entirely up to you.
Absolutely. A well-designed home feels effortless, calm, functional and exactly right. Beyond the aesthetic, working with a professional exposes you to new products, new solutions and a level of finish that's very hard to achieve alone. Most of my clients say they wish they'd done it sooner.
I source from a wide range of trade-only suppliers and furniture retailers across Australia, selecting pieces that suit your budget, timeline and brief. Everything is chosen specifically for your home, nothing generic, nothing off the shelf just because it's easy.
Yes, always. The process starts with a Discovery Call, followed by a face-to-face design consultation at your home of up to two hours. This gives us a chance to get to know each other, walk through your space together, and discuss your vision, budget, lifestyle and timeline. I'll review your inspiration images and make sure I fully understand your style and goals. After that I'll prepare a tailored proposal, and from there, you decide whether you'd like to move forward. There's no pressure and no obligation.
Interior design is the science of understanding how people live within a space, ensuring every room is functional, well-considered and beautiful. Interior decoration is the furnishing of a space; furniture, window treatments, soft furnishings and accessories. I'm a qualified interior designer with extensive experience in decoration, which means I can take your project all the way from concept to completion, covering both with equal confidence.
Not at all, and that's intentional. Every client is different, and I love creating spaces that are unique to the person living in them. Whether your style is contemporary, coastal, classic or somewhere in between, I'll always ensure the design feels cohesive through a considered use of colour, shapes and materials. No two Milu Designs projects look the same.
Absolutely, and I actively encourage it. There's no need to start from scratch. I'll take the time to understand the pieces you love and want to keep and build a design around them. A cohesive look can always be achieved through thoughtful use of colour, texture and layering, regardless of where individual pieces came from.
Of course! This is actually very common. If you've been saving images on Pinterest or Instagram that catch your eye, start collecting them, even if they feel inconsistent or scattered. In our initial consultation we'll work through them together to understand what draws you to each one and build a cohesive design brief that's unique to you. That brief gets signed off by you before any design work begins.
Typically no, and actually for good reason. Shopping store by store greatly limits the range of pieces available to you, takes considerably more time, and many items simply aren't on a showroom floor. Instead, I present all furniture selections in detailed design sheets with photos, specifications and product samples wherever possible, so you can make confident, informed decisions from the comfort of your own home. If you'd prefer to see certain pieces in person before committing, just let me know at our initial consultation and I'll factor that into the process.
Before any order is placed I do everything possible to ensure you feel completely confident in your selections; including detailed design sheets with photos, specifications and samples where available. It's worth knowing that most supplier return windows tend to be exhausted by the time furniture is received, checked and installed, so it's important we get the decision right upfront.
What I can promise is this, every item is received at my warehouse and thoroughly checked for quality within 24 hours of arrival. Any damage or fault is identified and resolved before installation takes place, so what arrives in your home is always to the standard you'd expect.
If you have any concerns about a particular piece before ordering, just say so, I'd always rather take more time on the decision than have you end up with something you're not completely happy with.
Still have questions? I'd love to help.
